This bill would authorize a city, county, or city and county, including a charter city, charter county, or charter city and county, to establish by ordinance a housing sustainability district that meets specified requirements, including authorizing residential use within the district through the ministerial issuance of a permit.

Mayor Mark Farrell and Supervisor Jane Kim of San Francisco introduced an ordinance for establishing a Housing Sustainability District in part of the plan area under AB 73, legislation that came into effect this year. Among other things the district provides the option of streamlining the approval process for projects meeting certain eligibility requirements
