Automatic Fire Sprinkler System / Installation for Townhouses/One-Two-Family Dwellings / Residential and Neighborhood Safety / Execute Ordinance

CF 93-1888-S1  AT CITY COUNCIL 01/14/2020  Adopted, (13); Absent: Huizar, Krekorian (2)

Final Ordinance No. 186,503

GENERAL EXEMPTION, PLANNING AND LAND USE MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE REPORT, and ORDINANCE FIRST CONSIDERATION relative to amending the Los Angeles Municipal Code (LAMC) to require automatic fire sprinklers for additions or alterations to a townhouse or one or two-family dwellings.

Recommendations for Council action, SUBJECT TO THE APPROVAL OF THE MAYOR:

FIND, in accordance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), this draft ordinance meets the criteria of a General Exemption pursuant to Article III, Sections 15301,15302, and 15308, Classes 1 and 5 of the CEQA Guidelines, and that this draft ordinance will involve negligible or no expansion of the use existing at the time the exemption is granted, because interior sprinkler requirements do not change the physical aspects of one- or two-family dwellings or condominiums or their environmental impacts, and the purpose is to help assure protections of the environment from fire hazards.

PRESENT and ADOPT the accompanying ORDINANCE dated October 16, 2019, amending the LAMC Section 91.5.300 to require automatic fire sprinklers for additions or alterations to a townhouse or one- or two-family dwellings.

NOT PRESENT and ORDER FILED the City Attorney report and Ordinance dated July 22, 2019.
